Thunder Bay, ON – May 5, 2010 -- The Thunder Bay Chill is excited to announce the return of the 2008 Premier Development League (PDL) Final’s Most Valuable Player; Gustavo Oliveira for the 2010 season. Oliveira will be reunited with his strike partner Brandon Swartzendruber, whose return to the team was announced last week.
Oliveira, who was most famous for scoring the tying goal to send the game into overtime, which eventually led to a Chill Championship in the 2008 finals in Laerado, Texas, was also the assist leader in the PDL in 2007. In 2008, Oliveira played limited minutes in an injury riddled year that saw the coaching staff use him only in special situations. "Gus had a tough year in 2008, and didn't play many minutes, but when he was on the field he was dangerous for every one of them," said Head Coach Tony Colistro. After taking a year away from soccer, Oliveira will return to the Chill in perfect health, a fact that has the Chill coaching staff very confident in their team’s attack.
Training camp for the Thunder Bay Chill begins this weekend at Chapples Park at 10:00 a.m. EDT, with the team taking part in practices twice a day until the season begins. Oliveira and his other teammates from out of town will be coming into Thunder Bay over next week, ready to begin building on a roster that has one goal; a 2010 PDL North American Title.
