THUNDER BAY --- October 23, 2009 – Since the first Olympic Games in Greece 2,700 years ago, the Games have celebrated the accomplishments of not only the world’s best athletes, but also its premiere artists and performers. The City of Thunder Bay is seeking local and community-based performers to be part of Thunder Bay’s Community Celebration when the Olympic Torch comes to Thunder Bay on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.
The Olympic Torch will arrive in Canada on October 30th, and you can follow the Torch's progress across Canada at our Olympic Torch page.
"We are looking for experienced and emerging local performers who appeal to all ages and abilities, who will deliver a celebratory, upbeat, high-quality performance and in some way express the uniqueness of Thunder Bay and celebrate the Olympic spirit," said Mayor Lynn Peterson. “This is such a unique opportunity for local artists and performers to share the Olympic spirit.”
We have five openings for 20-minute sets inside on the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium stage from 3 - 5:30 pm and up to six 10-minute sets outside on the Olympic stage between 6 - 8 pm.
Any interested performers including individual musicians or groups, choirs, dancers, drum groups, marching bands, etc, are invited to fill out the “Call for Talent” application package and provide a supporting demo. Call 625-2351 to have the application mailed to you, or pick it up at Community Services Reception, Victoriaville Civic Centre.
All applications are due Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 by 4:30 pm.
The Community Celebration Committee will make a selection of performers and successful applicants will be contacted by Friday, Dec. 4.
