St. Peters, MO – June 27, 2010 ---- The Thunder Bay Chill completed the sweep of the St. Louis Lions on Sunday, as Brandon Swartzendruber scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. Steve Paterson earned his fourth shutout of the season, in what was another caution-filled game. With a record of seven wins, one loss, and one tie, the results this weekend have placed the Chill at the top of the Premier Development League's (PDL) Heartland Division.
Heat played a major role in the game for the second night in a row, with both teams coming out sluggish. In the 11th minute, Brandon Swartzendruber put the Chill on the score sheet, assisted by Gustavo Oliviera. The rest of the game was high-lighted by cautions, with the Chill receiving four yellow cards, and the Lions one. Both teams had players sent off with red cards, as Lions' Gavin Smith was shown red in the 86th minute for a tough tackle, and the Chill's Andrew Marinez received his marching orders in stoppage time for a retaliatory elbow.
Chill Head Coach Tony Colistro said; "I think we were sluggish in both games this weekend, the heat and the humidity was unbearable. The results were positive, but we need to do better."
The Chill continues on the road as they face the Springfield Demize on Wednesday, June 30th, 2010, at 8:30 p.m. (EDT) at Drury University Harrison Stadium, Springfield, Missouri. Nolan Intermoia, who was serving his mandatory one-game suspension for a red card in Saturday's game, will return for the game against the Demize.
