THUNDER BAY, ON - March 23, 2010 – The Thunder Bay International Baseball
Association (TBIBA) would like to announce that the Toronto Blue Jays have made a $10,000 funding commitment to the 2010 International Baseball Federation World Junior Baseball Championship (WJBC). The announcement was made during a media conference with Sean McCann, Amateur Baseball Ambassador for the Toronto Blue Jays, and Greg Hamilton, Head Coach and Baseball Canada’s Director of National Teams, who were in Thunder Bay, Ontario profiling this summer's WJBC.
The Toronto Blue Jays’ association with the TBIBA dates back to the 2004 Baseball Canada Cup. Holding youth clinics in Thunder Bay in partnership with the TBIBA has been part of the Blue Jays mandate to support and promote amateur baseball in Canada.
Greg Hamilton, Head Coach of Canada’s National Junior Team, spoke of the Canadian Junior Team's road to the WJBC this summer in Thunder Bay. Hamilton outlined the team’s busy schedule that sees the thirty-one player roster heading to the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL, USA for a ten-day spring training camp.
Both Hamilton and McCann were able to field several questions about what Thunder Bay can expect as hosts of the 2010 WJBC. The tournament, whose July 23rd, 2010 start date is quickly approaching, promises to be an exciting event for Thunder Bay, and the surrounding area.
