Minimize

THUNDER BAY, ON  ---- September 12, 2010  ---- Today, 375 cyclists participated in the second annual Caribour Charity Ride for NCFCaribou Charity Ride in support of the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.  Event co-chair Jeff Hupka is extremely pleased by the community's support of the event, not only from the particpants, but also from local businesses.  "Sponsor response has been overwhelming," Hupka says.  "They made it possible to hold an event that fills a gap for the cycling community while raising funds for an important cause."  Early calculations suggest the 2010 Caribou Charity Ride raised $20,000.

Glenn Craig, President & CEO of the Health Sciences Foundation, who joined riders for the 50 km ride, noted 100% of the funds raised will remain in Northwestern Ontario. "The Caribou Charity Ride is very meaningful for our community," he says.  "While the funds raised support world-class cancer care for the people of Northwestern Ontario, it also promotes healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention.  It's very encouraging to see people of ages taking part in today's ride."

Participants were in great spirit, enjoying the sunshine and scenery as they headed out from the Nor'wester Best Western Resort Hotel for the 100 km and 50 km rides.  In the atached photos: (0167) Caribou Chairty Ride participant Lorna MacAskill gives the thumps up as she heads out for a 50 km ride in support of the Northern Cancer Fund; (0182) 375 cyclists in the Caribou Chairty Ride helped raise $20,000 in support of cancer education & awareness, treatment and research in Northwestern Ontario.
