Paul Murphy

Here you will find  buffet of information about childhood obesity. Paul  Murphy wants to call you, the reader, to manipulate you into taking real action on childhood obesity. Our children continue to be slapped with messages that state, or even infer that they need to be more accountable in the area of childhood obesity, and obesity in general. The media messages related to active healthy living, and lifestyle continue to be spewed into the community through countless streams. The activity model continues to be funded by the giant food, and weight loss industries.

www.obesitythunderbay.ca hopes to bring forth awareness, support and a model for obesity prevention. The weight loss industry continues to exploit the obese individual at every turn. I am not a big fat loser, but I am morbidly, or deathly obese, and I am trying to squeeze others into meaningful action. Rather than look for some other person, or office to discuss my work and web site on childhood obesity, I am calling you to action.  His column will be appearing every Wednesday.

Big Fat Lazy Kids

THUNDER BAY, ON   ------   November 24, 2010  ------  Childhood Obesity media messages continue to mislead our public to support special interest and very persuasive ad campaigns. This piece of writing is focused on the media, the weight loss industry and the concept of prevention. The lifestyle tool appears to be a very big tool used to scheme over to and slide into blame. Our media and food industries have been blaming TV’s and couches for years and years. We, as a society have been standing by and watching our children get bullied, due to obesity and we are all shocked when we see young girls nearly starving themselves to death, in the hope of emulating the Hollywood image. The media continues to promote an image of woman to be extremely thin often wearing a bikini, with a perfect body.  Lake Superior News  read more....>

Childhood obesity more complex

THUNDER BAY, ON,-----  November 17, 2010 ---- Childhood obesity is a little more complex than what we are being told ,and I want to say thanks to the countless of contacts and volunteers, who have supported Obesity Thunder Bay. We have a food environmental crisis and the time for action, real action, is upon us.At some point and time we need to support mainstream media  to get off of the couch potato myth.Currently, we have six month old babies that are overweight. Is this due to too much TV ? I am calling  on others to get involved, and I want to say a big thank you to the many many readers .  Thunder Bay ,and Northwestern Ontario is my home, and I think we have a community driven action plan and somebody needs to raise awareness on the notion of health prevention. Lake Superior News read more.....>

Fat Hatred and Bashing the Obese

THUINDER BAY, ON ---  November 10, 2010 ----  Our health care agencies in Thunder Bay, are under attack, due to this impending obesity crisis. The issue could not be simpler, and yet we are losing the battle. Perhaps we are misguided by special interest groups. Many heavily funded programs continue to focus solely on physical activity, and very little else. The root cause of obesity may be misinformation, and our stats that continue to grow and grow are due to our misguided work plan. How does addressing physical activity, successfully, address the issue? Bashing the obese and spreading fat hatred is a regular occurrence within the media. Programs such as The Biggest Loser, only add to the already complex situation. The goal is to raise the level of awareness, and  try to promote the conversation about this practice. Why are the obese the targets, and how can we begin to address this issue?  Lake Superior News read more.....>
